2007 North American Specification

CFS now supports the 2007 Edition of the "North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Members". This includes ASD and LRFD for U.S. and Mexico, as well as LSD for Canada. CFS continues to support the 2004, 2001, and 1999 Editions. Specific changes from 2004 to 2007 are as follows:

  • Revision to list of applicable steels - ASTM A1039 added
  • Provisions for elements with non-circular holes moved to a different section
  • Changes for elements with one intermediate stiffener
  • New provisions for distortional buckling of edge stiffened compression flanges of flexural members
  • New provisions for distortional buckling of edge stiffened flanges of compression members
  • Changes to web-crippling strength for some section types
  • Provisions for closed cylindrical tubular shapes moved to a different section
  • Provisions for flexural members having one flange fastened to deck or sheathing moved to a different section
  • Provisions for compression members having one flange fastened to deck or sheathing moved to a different section
Enhancements
  • New feature for measuring distance between two points on the section
  • Changed highlight color in graphics display for better visibility
  • DXF file of section geometry created in millimeters if using metric units
  • Added load direction to analysis diagrams report
  • Added section material and yield strength to member check report
  • Added section material and yield strength to web-crippling report
  • Added provisions of AISI Section B5.2 for edge stiffened flange with intermediate stiffeners
  • Added load combinations for ASCE 7-02, ASCE 7-05, IBC 2006, RMI MH16.1-2004
  • Added loading type for Product Load to support RMI specification
  • New warning in strength report if no web elements participate in shear strength
  • Allow element to contribute to web-crippling strength if bearing through another element
  • Added input for rotational stiffness of flange connection to enhance distortional buckling strength
  • Added 2002 AISI Design Manual examples to AISI section library
  • Added window tile feature
Corrections
  • Use reduced k value on partially stiffened flange with non-circular hole
  • Selected specifications for custom combinations are now saved properly
  • Corrected minimum Fu for ASTM A1003 materials
  • Printer selection does not change the system default printer
